AI Identity Starter Checklist
For small companies and solo operators. Your AI Identity is what the public file and the models already say about you — first answer, first impression.
Goal (one week): one clear sentence, consistent name/phone/hours, one page a model can quote, and a service-area line. No tools required beyond your site and listings.
Day 1 — One sentence
- Write: who you help + what you do + where (one sentence, plain English).
- Put it in the site header or home hero — not only the About page.
- Same sentence on Google Business / main directory if you have one.
Day 2 — Name · phone · hours
- List every place your business appears (site, Google, Facebook, Yelp, chamber…).
- Make legal/trade name, phone, and hours identical everywhere you control.
- Remove or update dead pages that still show old hours or a retired number.
Day 3 — A page models can quote
- Publish (or clean) a Services / What we do page with concrete outcomes — not only a contact form.
- Use real words customers use (“fleet repair,” “estate planning,” not only slogans).
- Add city/region in body text once, naturally.
Day 4 — Service area
- One line: where you serve (e.g. “Lexington and central Kentucky”).
- Same line on contact page and Google service area if applicable.
Day 5 — Trust crumbs
- One proof you already have: year started, license #, notable client type, or short testimonial with permission.
- Put it on the home or services page — dated if possible.
Day 6 — Ask the machines
- In a private window, ask 2–3 AI tools: “Who is [your company] in [city]?”
- Note what they get wrong (thin, wrong competitor, old address).
- Fix only what you control this week; log the rest for later.
Day 7 — Leave a trail
- Update one external listing you neglected.
- Save a dated note: sentence · URLs changed · still open.
- Optional: free deeper picture — AI Identity Snapshot (Marshall Intelligence).
Remember
You don’t create a reputation in a day — you grow it. Evidence planting beats after-the-fact props.
